Early Life and Career Beginnings
Filippo Berrettini, popularly known as Fils Berrettini, was born in Rome, Italy, on December 10, 1998. He began playing tennis at a young age, inspired by his father, Luca Berrettini, a former professional soccer player. At 18, he turned pro and quickly rose through the ranks of the junior circuit, winning the Wimbledon boys' singles title in 2017.
Breakthrough Season in 2019
Berrettini's breakthrough came in 2019 when he reached the semifinals of the US Open, becoming the first Italian man to reach that stage of a Grand Slam since 1977. He also captured his first ATP title at the Stuttgart Open, defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final.
